Colossians 2:10 (NIV) and in Christ, you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.
There are so many things that make us feel incomplete every day. Some days it’s a strong force that threatens to overwhelm and fill us with despair. Other days it’s a tiny nagging feeling that refuses to go away and demands attention which leads to anxiety and stress. There are so many things we do to avoid that sinking feeling. We pretend to be someone we are not or we try to hide under a façade that seems to provide protection for a while, or we try so hard to impress or sometimes we are so upset we just defiantly do something so terrible in the hope that it will make us forget the real pain of the shame we carry of never being enough, never being complete. The verse above has brought me so much peace since the time it has touched my heart as I was reading my Bible. I have read it before but somehow it took some time (years) for me to pause and consider this verse. It is just next to a verse I have read and taught so many times and yet it passed my notice. Maybe the fact that it took so long was also a sign of how much my reality was blinding me to the truth that can set me free.
The NLT version reads - So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
Other versions like NIV and ESV use the word Fullness or Filled. It is true that we cannot be complete or be brought to fullness unless we are filled with Christ and only Christ can fill all those empty places in our hearts that long for something that nothing visible can fill.
So today… sit silently in the presence of God and go through every possible pocket and empty space of your minds and hearts courageously and let Christ’s love fill all of them. Feel the healing that the peace of Christ brings and hold on to it. Refuse to hold on to nothing else, but release them, especially those feelings of despair and incompleteness that your own voice may be telling you because you truly are complete through your union with Christ who is over every power and authority. Christ is all you need. Truly.
