On Earth, Peace
By Fadia Alhinn (Amman, Jordan)
Scripture Reading: Luke 2:13-14
Since the beginning of the pandemic and until today, there are worries, concerns, doubts, frustrations, confusion, fear of the future and uncertainty everywhere and in every aspect of life. And here we are approaching the Christmas Season, the season of joy and peace.
As I reflect on Christmas and the sound of the angels, Luke 2 comes to mind:
Luke 2 : 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
The verse speaks about the promise of peace to all men on whom God is well pleased. Yes, at the feet of Jesus is where we find peace, only there can He restore what Satan has stolen from us. For many years, Satan has tricked us with his big and small lies, leaving us in despair, fear, anxiety, depression, and disbelief.
The angels’ song is God’s voice in the ear and heart of each human on this earth. Jesus is the Chief of Peace. He provides the type of peace that cannot be taken away from us when we have this intimate, daily, close relationship with Christ our Lord and Savior. This type of peace is not a result of the absence of trouble, but an outcome of the presence of Jesus amidst trouble and chaos. A peace that rules in our hearts and lives every single day. A peace that brings healing, vision, hope, and forgiveness. An eternal peace that started in a manger and was fulfilled on the cross.
Jesus came to our earth with the plan to save and deliver us from all our sins, by his blood on the cross.
On the cross, Jesus gave peace to the heart of Mary and John by saying “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” To the thief that was crucified beside him, he said: “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Jesus instills peace in all of us, by his words on the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Our Lord miraculously came to this earth to achieve our undeserved salvation, while we insist on living life according to our own ways, own desires, and sinful choices.
May we receive his perfect, fulfilling, and eternal peace this Christmas season!
To him be all the Glory, today and forever!
