International Women’s Day Strengthens Hope in Michigan Churches
Despite a year of virtual church, women were eager to be together Saturday, March 6th, 2021 as the Detroit and Lansing Area Churches of Christ hosted their first virtual Women’s Day. We couldn’t help but wonder would women still be able to bond? Would friends and family come, perhaps the bigger concern? And true to form, our faithful God answered, YES! We saw over 350 women register for the event, the host congregations with no more than 225 women in their memberships. And the event was truly international! God transformed what we considered to be a limitation, having to be virtual, into a beautiful opportunity for women to participate from various states and six different countries around the world.
Leading up to Women's Day, multiple days of action took place to serve our local communities. The women organized donations for the Wyandotte Co-op, Alternative for Girls; Judson Center; Help’s On the Way; Ozone House; Foster Care Closet, and Whaley Children’s Center. Amongst these various organizations, essential goods were collected for high-risk girls, senior citizens, foster children, homeless youths; and children overcoming severe trauma.
While the pandemic has made maintaining deep connections challenging, God continues to remind us His power has no limits, His message can always bring hope, and that His Spirit unites us. Despite being apart, we are still together in Christ.
