Prayer as a Gift from God
Muna Alhinn – Amman, Jordan
Prayer is one of the most beautiful and greatest gifts that God has granted us. It is not merely a ritual or obligation but a personal invitation to converse with our Creator. In a world full of noise and distractions, prayer offers us a sacred space where we can place our hearts before God, listen to His voice, and experience His love firsthand.
Why is prayer a blessing and grace from God? Through prayer, we build a strong relationship with the Creator of the universe, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, who was tried in all things and able to do all things:
Hebrews 4:14-16: "Since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are."
Through this relationship, we can listen to Him, and He listens to us. Thus:
1. He answers our requests when they align with His will. 1 John 5:14-15: "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him."
2. He gives us the ability to accept His will. Jesus taught us through the Lord's Prayer in Luke 11 to say, "Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
3. He changes our mindset so that we understand His thoughts. Many situations happen in our lives that we do not understand, and we wonder why God allows them. But through prayer, we find answers that bring us peace, helping us understand that the Lord is good, merciful, and His love is boundless. We come closer to His way of thinking: 1 Corinthians 2:16: "For, 'Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?' But we have the mind of Christ."
4. We realize that there is a powerful God whom we can call Abba Father. He neither slumbers nor sleeps and can hear us at any time, in any place. He forgives our sins, meets our needs, encourages us, supports us, sympathizes with our weaknesses, is compassionate towards us, and never abandons us: Luke 11:2: "He said to them, 'When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.'"
5. We can bring our burdens and weights to Him and lay them at His feet because He desires our rest: Matthew 11:28: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
If we realize all these blessings we receive through prayer, we will surely live a life of gratitude to the God who loved us first and redeemed us with the precious blood of His Son.
Therefore, let us be determined to strengthen our lives with prayer, to cherish this gift, and to express through it our gratitude for all the blessings God has bestowed upon us. Whether we are in joy, sorrow, or the ordinary moments of life, let us never forget the privilege we have in speaking directly to our loving Father:
"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." – Colossians 4:2
