Philippians 3:20a But our citizenship is in heaven.
After being adopted as children of God, we become citizens of the kingdom of God. Jesus is our king and he reigns in our hearts and minds. God has lovingly marked us for our inheritance in heaven with the seal of the Holy Spirit. (2 Corinthians 1:22).
In Hebrews 13:14 (NLT) it is written, For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.
Since we are preparing for a better country, a better and abiding city, it helps us to take everything that happens here not so seriously. We need to always be looking forward to this heavenly country (Hebrews 11:14-16).
There is something so reassuring about a country that is going to be so different from what we have seen so far or will ever see with our human eyes. It makes us let go of things that have value only until we are alive, because we are so sure of treasures in that heavenly country. (Matthew 6:20) It makes us calm down even when rewards are not received as we expected. It makes us unanxious even when there is chaos all around. It frees us from the allure of the deceptive glitter and glamour of the world and helps us to set our minds on things above. (Colossians 3:2).
Above there, Jesus has already prepared a place for us (John 14:2). We usually dream of buying or building a house with those or only for those we love or care about deeply so that we can build our home by being together.
So today…my fellow citizens, is anything causing you to be troubled? Remind yourself that Jesus tells us not to be troubled because he has already prepared a room for us in that house in heaven. Think of that heavenly country and remind yourself that you are but a traveller and a pilgrim, a foreigner in this small planet and take heart (1 Peter 2:11). And thank Jesus for loving you so much that he wants to be with you together forever in that heavenly country.
