1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Let us read the first verse again. It says something so incredible and stunning that if it doesn’t blow your mind away then maybe you have already understood this and are already joyfully doing your best to live a holy and blameless life. But, isn’t it incredible that even before God said “ let there be light”, he had already thought of you and me and not simply think but if we read the following verses, it says he did this with great pleasure (Ephesians 1:5-8).

What we understand from this is that God loved us even before we were created. It is like a mother already celebrating her child yet to be born and preparing herself for the ordeal of labour pain and the caregiving that is bound to follow, because the pleasure that she gets from the thought of her own child is so prominent in her being. God knew that he would have to go through the pain of the cross and yet he decided to lavish his grace upon us.

We all have, at one point or the other, known the joy of being chosen. We feel special, honoured and loved. We desire to give our best even as we sense the pleasure of the one who has chosen us. Yet, we also do not get chosen every time. But take heart, God has already chosen us in Christ to be his special possession.

So today…as you talk with the one who has chosen you and created you, dedicate yourself to seeking his face always that shines with pleasure and love towards you.
