Isaiah 66:13a As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.
In the past few years, grief and loss seem to have become our constant companions. We need comfort in such a grim scenario but this is not the only time when we need comfort. There are times when we feel so drained emotionally and mentally that things do not seem to make any sense.
So many painful things happen to us from time to time. We lose our jobs or a friend becomes distant or someone misunderstands us or someone misrepresents us or we just mess up badly or we make some foolish mistake or we get rejected without any clear explanation.
What do we do when we feel like our hearts are so broken, so filled with piercing pain? We see here God saying he will comfort us as a mother comforts her child.
One of the loveliest things in the world is to behold a child totally relaxed in a mother’s arms especially after a bout of crying and whining.
The word comfort conjures up things I love the most, things that bring nice feelings which in turn seem to soothe my tense muscles and my body seems to be smiling, even grinning.
We need to remember that the darkest valley brings forth the rod and staff of our dear shepherd’s comfort. (Psalm 23:4)
So today…whatever may be causing you distress, pain or bewilderment, bring it to the lap of our heavenly father, tell him about it even if you have to cry and let him comfort you. Acknowledge whatever may be bothering you or even tormenting you. Feel his soothing arms around you and rest in his loving and safe arms. He will comfort you like no else can. He is the father of compassion and the God of all comfort. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
