October is Breast Cancer Awareness month in the USA.
We asked some of our sisters around the world who are breast cancer survivors to share with us the answers to three questions about their experience. Mimi Mok Chapman is originally from Hong Kong and is now a member of the East London church of Christ. Here is what she had to say.
1) How did you discover that you had breast cancer?
I discovered that I had breast cancer through self-examination, and then I went to see a doctor.
2) How have you seen God in your breast cancer journey?
Throughout my breast cancer journey, I have witnessed the presence of God in the love and support of others, the moments of peace and strength in prayer, and the expertise of the medical professionals who guided me. These experiences have deepened my faith and reinforced my belief that God is with me every step of the way.
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my son had just turned three years old. It was only six months prior that he was diagnosed with autism and started attending a special school.
During my treatment, I learned the true meaning of letting go because I simply couldn't take care of my son on my own.
Letting go meant trusting that my son was in capable hands and that he would receive the support and care he needed. It taught me to rely on God, others, to accept help, and to have faith that everything would work out for the best.
Seeing my son thrive and make progress while I focused on my own treatment was both comforting and empowering.
3) What would you want to say to a woman who may read your words who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer, or who is in the middle of her treatment for breast cancer?
Each journey is unique, so there's no need to compare or pretend to be strong. You don't have to endure it alone. Pour out your heart to God because He understands you best and knows what you're about to go through together.
Find scriptures that encourage you to accompany you on this journey. Two passages that have been uplifting for me are:
Psalm 46:10 - Be still, and know that I am God.
James 4:14 - Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
May the words of God bring you comfort, strength, and a sense of peace as you navigate through your own breast cancer journey. God is holding me close and providing the strength I need. These verses remind me to find solace in Gods presence, to trust in His sovereignty, and to cherish each moment as a precious gift. They serve as a reminder to embrace stillness, seek His guidance, and surrender the uncertainties of the future into His hands.

May - Heart touching and inspiring sharing. I know Mimi personally, what she shared is so true. “God’s holding us close”- He showers thus to us in a “creative way”; 16 years ago, we (Mimi, Lynne Green, and I) shared our cancer treatment journeys (diagnosed almost at same time) together made us feel God’s care
