This month, October 2023, our sisters from the Middle Eastern churches share with us the above video entitled “I am who I am.”
Don’t miss the insightful article by Betty Maamari Parallel Paths: Running the Race of Body and Soul. This week we add to the Middle East collection the voices of their youth in "Deep Root” Reflections.
I am Reem Khoury, a single disciple in the Beirut Church of Christ for four years now, serving in the youth ministry and speaking on behalf of lovely ladies who love Jesus in a crazy way. I am witness of many challenges we have been facing, ups and downs, persecutions, sickness, singlehood problems, conflicts, disappointments, lack of job opportunities, spiritual warfare, explosions, broken families… the list will never end and still we are always focused on being faithful to God and to represent Him in the best way possible.
This summer, after building a strong bond together on a weekly basis by meeting together in D-groups, we decided to focus on evangelism and studying the Bible, through a series called “Deep Roots.” We planned to start inviting women after our meeting together. This created a beautiful bond and taught us how to be united and selfless in giving to others. We are witnessing women attending, but the miracles are instantly and beautifully happening. We ask you to pray for our ministry and to take more time to read some comments from them.

Recently I have experienced God on a deeper level and learned how to build an intimate relationship with Him, to keep myself deeply connected and rooted in His word. Before knowing Jesus, I was searching for happiness and peace in the world; for security, a purpose for my life, for someone who will love me as I am, who will forgive everything I have done. And when I knew that Jesus laid down His life for me, and had endured physical, emotional and spiritual pain to save me personally from all my past sins, and that He has a purpose for my life, I discovered a true love only God can give: the love of the cross.

Being lost in this chaotic world, we always need to hear God’s voice through people, Bible, and the Church. The past few months I have been reading many books along with the Bible, and two of them changed my life and my perspective. One is called Recapture the Wonder, and the second is God’s Heart for the Nations. God shaped my character using those books. He taught me that I don’t always need big events and huge change in my life or even travel the whole wide world to experience wonders or to become free. I understood that only by reading His word daily, I can experience wonders and change. Only by being next to Him I AM FREE! He freed me even from my own self. Only in few months God changed my mindset and I am forever grateful.

After spending a season in the wilderness, questioning the will of God in my life, He revealed His faithfulness to me at the end of the tunnel. God is faithful, our God overflows with wisdom. He taught me to keep my eyes fixed on Him, to keep His promises engraved in my heart. He taught me not to wait. But to let go! Because there’s freedom in letting go and this is exactly where He will bring life to my slowly dying hopes.
In a book called The Practice of Godliness by Jerry Bridges, the author explains that devotion to God can only come from a deep relationship with Him, and springs from a balance of fear, love and desire. The fear of God is seeing Him in His transcendent Glory and holiness and accepting His discipline against our sinful
conduct. Love of God is knowing and accepting His grace and His forgiving nature. The desire for God is deeply enjoying His presence and wanting to know Him more.
